Visit of Mr. Boris Mijatovic, Member of the Bundestag, to BRAC University

On 27 October 2025, Mapped in Bangladesh (MiB) and GIZ jointly organized an interactive event at the EMBA Lounge, BRAC University, on the occasion of the visit of Mr. Boris Mijatovic, Member of the Bundestag (German Federal Parliament).

The program began with the opening remarks by Mr. Ata Ullah, Lead – Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration, Mapped in Bangladesh. Following that, Mr. Sadril Shajahan, Researcher at the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED), BRAC University, delivered a presentation on the Mapped in Bangladesh (MiB) initiative. The session was followed by a lively question-and-answer segment, where Mr. Mijatovic engaged in an insightful discussion with students and young researchers of BRAC University.

Participants raised thought-provoking questions on topics such as Germany’s future plans for a circular economy, integrating fast fashion issues into education, the development of the MiB platform and the potential for a factory rating system, and the feasibility of replicating MiB globally to strengthen factory–brand linkages and promote safety compliance.

During the discussion, Mr. Mijatovic remarked,

“When I look on this map, I see 2.9 million workers are working in the textile business, textile industry here in Bangladesh for the German market. So I can take this number, this figure back to Germany and say, look how much responsibility we have.”

He emphasized the shared responsibility in promoting sustainable consumption and labor rights and appreciated the enthusiastic participation of a large number of female students in the event.

The session concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Michael Klode, Project Manager, GIZ; Professor Dr. Mohammad Mujibul Haque, Dean, BRAC Business School; and Professor Dr. Arshad Mahmud Chowdhury, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, BRAC University. Representatives from the Embassy of Germany in Bangladesh were also present at the event.
