How we started

In 2017, in the absence of an accurate factory list in the export-oriented RMG factory in Bangladesh, researchers at the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Development (CED) at Brac University conducted the first nation-wide census to identify and map all export-oriented RMG factories in Bangladesh. The goal was to provide a total view of the sector, which in turn would increase transparency and facilitate collaboration.

This was the start of the Mapped in Bangladesh platform. Building on this list, MiB collected additional datapoints and has become the go-to source of information for Bangladesh’s RMG sector. Our team includes researchers, academics, RMG specialists, operations and stakeholder engagement experts.

Led by academics

MiB is a team of researchers, data engineers and RMG specialists within the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED) at Brac University. Our platform has been built by academics with a deep understanding of Bangladesh’s RMG sector, using robust, academic methodologies an verification processes to provide independent, credible and accurate data about Bangladesh’s RMG industry.

Project Advisory Committee

MiB is guided by a multi-stakeholder Project Advisory Committee, which includes representatives from a wide range of groups including civil society organisations, academics, think tanks, workers rights groups, industry associations, philanthropic funders, and government organizations.
