Our Data

In 2021, in the absence of an accurate factory list in the export-oriented RMG factory in Bangladesh, Brac University researchers conducted the first nation-wide census to identify and map all export-oriented RMG factories in Bangladesh. The primary goal of this activity was to identify and locate RMG factories within Bangladesh to provide a complete view of the industry. Building on this, we collected additional datapoints. This was the start of the Mapped in Bangladesh platform.

How MiB's Data is Collected

Our data goes through a rigorous four-step process that includes custom-built software developed by our research team, ensuring accuracy, independence, and reliability
Data Collection
Data Cleaning
Data Analysis & Validation
Data Uploaded

1. Data Collection

Data is collected either by our field team or via an app that factory management can submit information on. For data contributed through our app, we implement a number of measures to prevent falsification.

2. Data Cleaning

Using bespoke data cleaning software developed by our in- house researchers, we review the data to ensure accuracy and reduce errors in a streamlined manner.

3. Data Analysis & Validation

Our team uses our in-house Data Verification and Validation Protocol (DVVP), a bespoke data verification software developed by our researchers. This process verifies and validates the data collected, matching it with various sources such as baseline data, secondary sources and images submitted by our Field Officers and factory managers.

4. Upload Data

Once the data has gone through the data verification process, it is uploaded to our platform, which is updated regularly. On each factory's profile, our team details when the data was last updated.

Research partnerships

Through Brac University, we can facilitate research partnerships for bespoke data requests, interviews and focus groups. Contact us directly for more information on this.
